Opening Day Vendor Specials

Tomorrow is opening day for the Corvallis Indoor Winter Market. We will be open from 9am-1pm. Music this week is the Sing In The Vally Vocalists accompanied by Patti Feltman. We will post vendor specials here every Friday so make sure you check out our blog or Facebook page before you head on down to the market. See you tomorrow!

Denison Farms- As I sit in my office and look out the window, I see our neighbor's wetland has turned into a lake with all the recent rains. Our fields, however, are above flood level, so we can harvest even in the wettest weather. In addition to the usual local kale, collards, spinach, cabbage, and potatoes that you have come to expect at the winter market, Denison Farms will have freshly-dug carrots, tender & sweet Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, and broccolini. Come early if you want Brussels sprouts or sweet potatoes, as those usually sell out quickly.

Wood Family Farm- We will have a complete line of beef cuts and pork sausage products available, as well as, a smattering of lamb cuts at the first market. We will also have eggs. The break between market seasons was enjoyable. The new year has begun with a bang. Our first litter of pigs were born last week and our first lambs arrived this week. Stop by our booth on Saturday and Dan will give you the farm update and help you replenish your meat supply!

The Mushroomery- We are mushroom hunting on the Coast for winter mushrooms and we will have Winter Chanterelles, Hedgehogs, Ashy Coral, Black Trumpets and a couple pounds of Chanterelles available Saturday. We will also have cultivated White Elm, grow-at-home-kits and White Truffles (harvested a few miles from the farm)!

Honeystone Candles- The Honeystone bees are clustered in their hives, waiting out the worst of the winter. However, the fragrance of summer flowers is present in their wax that we harvested last Fall to form into our original design candles. You can brighten your day and refresh the air in your home with the sweetness and light from pure beeswax candles. Honeystone Candles is offering a free floating candle with each $10 purchase this Saturday.

Custom Soap Shop- We are happy to be back at the Winter market. We have several new scents to try this week like Ginger Verbena and Sandalwood & Vanilla to name a few. We also have some wonderful new products as well. We will also be running an Opening Day Special- Receive a free Cranberry & Fig soap with a purchase of $10 or more. Make sure to check out our Facebook Page for a Valentines Day giveaway!

Bare Mountain Farms- While winter is now here in all its glory you can still get a sweet reminder of those great early warm summer days with some of our beautiful lavender gifts. At the farm we grow over 100 plants of lavender of many different varieties. We offer both fresh, when in season, and dried the rest of the year. Lavender can be very relaxing the fragrance is sweet yet soothing. Bare Mountain Flowers will be
offering all that you see pictured above and more this Saturday at our first indoor market of the season. We look forward to seeing our old friends and meeting new ones as the local market season begins. So stop by and visit us Tomorrow!

Early morning at Pacific Sourdough

It's 3:55 Saturday morning, dark and cold outside and pretty chilly inside the bakery too. I, with my first cup of coffee still steaming, come in and sleepily turn on the lights and the ovens. The sourdough loaves have been slowly proofing all night in the cool air and as the ovens heat up, the room warms and the loaves finish rising and are ready to be baked by the time the thermostat reaches 450degrees. The first batch gets tipped out of their baskets, slashed with a sharp razor and loaded into a steamy hot oven, 42 loaves to a batch. They quickly "spring" into perfect boules and baguettes; their slashes opening elegantly and in a few minutes begin to turn golden. 30 minutes later, I finish my coffee and it's time for the bread to come out. The loaves are now a dark golden brown and smell like toasted wheat, little blisters on the surface indicate perfect fermentation and I know the bread will taste great. As they cool on the rack they make a little crackling noise as the crust contracts slightly, it is a little chorus that says "breakfast"! Now the best part of the morning, the reward for yesterday's mixing and shaping and patience, a baker's privilege and of course, quality control. I get a fresh cup of coffee and tear off a chunk of warm baguette, the crust at it's crispiest, the crumb steaming and pungent, I butter it and take a bite, perfect! By now the bakery is warm and cozy and smells heavenly, the sun is rising as I load another batch into the oven and I am happy to know I will soon be sharing my delicious breakfast with lots of farmers market customers, smiles all around.
